I can use -er verbs in the simple present tense, including two-verb structures, to say what I do and like doing.
Key learning points
- [oi] sounds like 'voir'
- the infinitive of a verb in English can be translated as -to or ing
- regular -er verbs endings in the present tense are -e for 'je', -es for 'tu' and -e for 'il/elle'
- If a sentence has two verbs, the second verb needs to be in the long form/infinitive.
Words to know
- oi
- pronounced as in ‘voir’
- infinitive
- the dictionary form of the verb giving its general meaning
- two-verb structure
- phrase with two verbs, where the second verb is an infinitive
Common mistakes
French infinitive verbs can only be translated by the 'to - ' structure in English.
The infinitive verb can be translated as 'to -' or '-ing' e.g. 'to do' or 'doing'.
For parents, carers and teachers
- Tasks B1 and B2 could be extended if students need more time to consolidate vocabulary and/or the simple present tense. Mini white boards would be ideal for this task.
