I can exploit texts and photos to create extended spoken and written responses about ongoing environmental issues using a range of complex structures.
Key learning points
- Infinitives used as nouns, en train de and venir de can be combined in discussion about issues such as climate change.
- Care must be taken when translating infinitives as nouns, venir de and en train de into English.
- Reading texts can be exploited to enrich our vocabulary on challenging and current issues.
- Immediate repetition of a speaking task, with reduced support, improves performance.
Words to know
- infinitive
- form of the verb giving its general meaning, with no subject or tense
- gerund
- verb in English ending in -ing which functions as a noun
Common mistakes
All similar looking French and English words have the same meaning.
Often, French words have multiple meanings and it is important to choose the right one for the given context e.g. 'durable' means durable and sustainable.
For parents, carers and teachers
- For the final speaking task, you may wish to guide students individually as to how much support they can have in front of them when they present.
