What you’ll learn
I can use self-assessment to reflect on my personal leadership skills, identifying strengths and areas for improvement.
Key learning points
- Move: participating in activities with maximum effort allows for a fun review of leadership.
- Think: constantly evolving as a leader and working on areas for improvement requires reflection.
- Feel: growing in confidence while developing leadership requires listening to our strengths and areas of development.
- Connect: trust in ourselves and others is developed through openness and reflection.
Words to know
- self-assessment
- the process of evaluating oneself
- strengths
- the leadership qualities you feel you perform well at
- weaknesses
- the leadership qualities you feel are an area for improvement
Common mistakes
Pupils think self-assessment is similar to being assessed in something.
Self-assessment is an opportunity to reflect and does not count towards any assessment. It is positive. Leaders are able to grow from self-assessments as they recognise strengths, but more importantly, identify keys areas of improvement.
For parents, carers and teachers
- Please use a leadership review that works for the pupils. For example, they could complete a postcard which is posted at the end of the session. Alternatively, this could be completed as a peer-assessment opportunity.
