What you’ll learn
I can strike the ball with intent away from the fielders to score runs (points).
Key learning points
- Move: to strike the ball, watch the ball and follow through with our strike to get power behind our shot.
- Move: to strike the ball with power, our body must be behind the ball, with eyes on the target following through.
- Think: striking the ball with intent into space away from the fielders increases our chances of scoring runs (points).
- Feel: striving to try our best to hit the ball further and more accurately shows great integrity.
- Connect: helping our teammates to make decisions about where to hit the ball develops trust and responsibility.
Words to know
- strike
- the act of hitting/making contact with the ball
- intent
- striking a ball with a specific objective or strategy in mind
- power
- the ability to use force when striking the ball
Common mistakes
Pupils aim to strike the ball with a lot of power which can lead to missed timed strikes and no contact being made.
Power can range from the small amount of power needed to make contact, to a lot of power to make the ball travel further.
For parents, carers and teachers
- Place an emphasis with pupils on technique and making contact with the ball first before increasing the power and distance.
