What you’ll learn

I can play the full version of rounders and understand the key rules of the game.

Key learning points

  • Move: accurate throwing, catching and retrieving skills are vital to prevent the batters from scoring rounders.
  • Move: to prevent the batting team scoring, we must react fast to retrieve the ball and throw quickly back to the target.
  • Think: when batting, we have to decide which base to run to depending on how well we strike the ball.
  • Feel: following the rules of the game and playing fairly shows excellent integrity.
  • Connect: working together when we are struggling demonstrates good cooperation.

Words to know

batting
when a player uses a bat to try to hit a ball that is thrown or bowled to them
fielding
when players on the team that is not batting try to catch or stop the ball and get the batters out
accuracy
the ability to control where we throw or hit an object

Common mistakes

When pupils are batting and they run around the bases, they often run inside the bases, which is against the rules of the game.

Ensure pupils know the rule that they must run around the outside of the bases when running.

For parents, carers and teachers
  • Rounders bases are used in this lesson, however cones are sufficient when creating the 4 bases, if you do not have access to rounders bases.
