I can use the singular forms of the verbs 'venir' and 'sortir' and I can use inversion to ask questions about others in French.
Key learning points
- The sound [è/ê] is pronounced as in the word tête.
- 'Je viens', 'tu viens' and 'il, elle vient' are singular forms of the -ir verb 'venir'.
- 'Je sors', 'tu sors' and 'il, elle sort' are singular forms of the -ir verb 'sortir'.
- For a 'yes/no' or closed inversion question in French, swap the subject and the verb (e.g. Sors-tu ce soir ?)
- A two-verb inversion question follows this word order: pronoun + verb + infinitive (e.g. Aimes-tu sortir ?)
Words to know

- venir
- -ir verb meaning'to come, coming'

Common mistakes
The accents é and è are pronounced the same in French and can be written interchangably.
It is essential to write an accent accurately as the accents é and è are pronounced differently. É is pronounced as in the word 'écrire' and è is pronounced as in the word 'trés'.
For parents, carers and teachers
- In questions D2, as an extension activity, ask pupils to ask and answer the questions to each other. This will allow for further speaking practice and for pupils to explore multiple answers.
