What you’ll learn

I can perform different types of passes to keep possession of the ball.

Key learning points

  • Move: receiving a ball safely with one or two hands requires moving our body towards the ball to keep it under control.
  • Move: keeping possession of the ball requires us to execute a variety of accurate passes.
  • Think: the ball must be passed within 4 seconds to avoid violating the possession rule.
  • Feel: increased confidence comes from success but it's also important to notice the benefit of learning from mistakes.
  • Connect: respect is shown for others by playing fairly and safely.

Words to know

bounce pass
a short pass in a crowded area that hits the ground once
overhead pass
a pass thrown from above the head to outwit a player marking the ball, usually over a longer distance
accuracy
a skill that reaches the intended target

Common mistakes

Pupils think they only have 3 seconds to pass the ball like in netball.

In Korfball pupils have 4 seconds to pass the ball.

For parents, carers and teachers
  • If you dont have Korfballs you can use handballs or netballs instead. Try and have equal gender split in all teams in all practices to replicate Korfball rules.
