What you’ll learn
I can understand ways of organising people into teams and make sure that everyone is included.
Key learning points
- Move: to complete the games as quickly as possible, we need speed and fast reaction times.
- Think: it is important to understand that if the size of the team is too big or too small, the game may not work.
- Feel: ensuring that everyone feels included in the game shows respect and empathy.
- Connect: effective leadership requires excellent communication so all members of the team understand their role.
Words to know
- leadership
- to guide, inspire and unite our teammates towards achieving a common goal
- communication
- exchanging information, ideas, thoughts or feelings between individuals or groups
- group
- a set of players working together to complete a task or activity
Common mistakes
Pupils believe that adding more players and making the task bigger, makes it better and more enjoyable.
Too many players can mean some stand around and don’t get get chance to join in properly. Ensure the number of players, attackers and defenders is suitable for the task.
For parents, carers and teachers
- Ensure opportunities for pupils to evaluate and feedback to each other. When putting pupils into groups, try and use mixed ability in terms of confidence levels to allow pupils to encourage and support each other.
