What you’ll learn
I can maintain possession with effective support from teammates
Key learning points
- Move: moving into space, away from defenders to offer a pass to the ball carrier, enables our team to keep possession.
- Think: creating a triangle of options for the ball carrier increases the chance of maintaining possession.
- Feel: playing by the rules and self-officiating demonstrates self-discipline.
- Connect: being kind involves including those outside of your friendship groups and ensuring they feel welcome.
Words to know
- formation
- the way you set up players on the court or pitch when attacking or defending
- possession
- keeping physical control of the ball amongst your team
- support
- giving assistance to team mates
Common mistakes
Making loop passes are effective in attacking situations.
Such passes are easy to intercept as they are easy to track and often don't go very far.
For parents, carers and teachers
- Use a variety of different sized and shape balls for pupils to explore different ways to send and receive. So the more expereinced pupils do not dominate games, encourage pupils to make sure that all players feel welcomed and heard.
