I can describe what activities I do at the weekend as well as make plans for the next weekend using 'ir' and 'ir' + a + infinitive.
Key learning points
- Adding adjectives, adverbs and nouns is an easy way to give more details and develop your sentences.
- 'Ir' is an irregular verb. Its singular and plural forms are 'voy', 'vas', 'va', 'vamos', 'vais', 'van'.
- We can use 'ir' to talk about routines and to talk about the future. Use 'ir' + a + infinitive to refer to the future.
- Both 'al' and 'a la' mean 'to the'. Use 'a la' before a feminine noun, and 'al' before a masculine noun.
- 'Puente' can be used to refer to a long weekend or bank holiday.
Words to know
- ir
- irregular verb meaning 'to go, going'
- ir + a + infinitive
- 2-verb structure meaning 'going to + infinitive'
Common mistakes
Any conjugated form of 'ir' ('voy', 'vas', 'va') can refer to routines or future events. For example, 'voy al parque' means 'I'm going to the park' or 'I'm going to go to the park'.
We can use 'ir' to talk about routines and to talk about the future, but when referring to future intentions, 'ir' needs to be followed by 'a' + infinitive.
For parents, carers and teachers
- Students can write their own sentences to talk about what they normally do in contrast with what they are planning to do this weekend; alternatively they can rewrite Sofia's texts adding time phrases and using the strategies for adding extra details covered in LC1 (adverbs, adjective, nouns).
