What you’ll learn

I can understand texts about key cultural events and equal rights in France and can recognise the use of future structures.

Key learning points

  • Use part of the verb 'aller' plus an infinitive to express going to do e.g. Elles vont visiter Paris.
  • Conjugate the simple future of -er verbs for nous, vous, ils/elles by adding the endings -ons, -ez, -ont to infinitive.
  • There are many popular cultural events in France each year, such as the 'marche des fiertés' in Paris.

Words to know

aller + infinitive
2-verb structure meaning 'going to + infinitive'
simple future
1-verb future tense meaning 'will + verb'

Common mistakes

When saying what you will do in French, a separate word is needed for 'will'.

The simple future in French is a simple tense because it is made of one word. The idea of 'will' is created through the correct verb stem and ending. Most -er verbs use the infinitive as stem for the simple future.

For parents, carers and teachers
  • Task A1 has two options. Option 1 has greater challenge and is aimed at the majority of pupils. Option 2 offers greater support for those who may need this. Teachers may wish to search for a video of la Marche des Fiertés to show in class, to deepen awareness of this significant cultural event.
