What you’ll learn

I can describe school experiences, preferences and strengths using a range of adjectives, comparatives and superlatives and interesting vocabulary.

Key learning points

  • Comparative and superlative adverbs can be used to describe actions more precisely.
  • Known adjectives can be used in comparative or superlative sentences to make writing and speaking more complex.
  • Extended reading texts can be exploited to enrich our vocabulary and use of complex structures in familiar topics.
  • Immediate repetition of a speaking task, with reduced support, improves performance.

Words to know

comparative adjective, adverb
a form of adjective or adverb used to compare people, things or ideas
superlative adjective, adverb
a form of adjective or adverb used to describe the highest degree of a quality e.g the fastest, the most difficult

Common mistakes

Students should develop their answers in role play tasks.

In role play tasks, students should concentrate on clearly communicating the stated information in a complete phrase and with conjugated verbs. There is no advantage to developing their answer further than is required.

For parents, carers and teachers
  • The role play task has two versions. Option 1 is more suitable for higher level students and is the version that is included in the video. Teachers should choose which task is best for their students.
