- Feel: continuing to try and hit the ball with more power and into space, even when you make mistakes, shows courage.
- Connect: congratulating and encouraging others when they throw or strike the ball well demonstrates empathy.
Words to know
- accuracy
- the ability to control where we hit an object
- fielder
- a defensive position that is occupied while the other team are batting
- score
- winning points in a game situation
Common mistakes
Pupils focus solely on their arm movements and neglect the use of their legs and hips to create power.
Ensure pupils understand how that bending their knees and rotating their hips can create more power for bigger hits.
For parents, carers and teachers
- Using a slightly larger and/or softer balls when pupils are hitting off of the batting T, can support pupils with less developed hand-eye coordination. Use a variety of bats (tennis, rounders, cricket) to support striking skills.
