Common mistakes
When playing as part of a bigger team, pupils often bunch around the ball and do not hold their shape. They can also be more static off the ball thinking that teammates will be available for a pass.
Reduce the numbers on each team, assign clear roles or freeze the play regularly to demonstrate where players should be. Focus on movement off the ball as soon as players have passed.
For parents, carers and teachers
- Based on the key learning points of the lesson, make a judgement as to whether pupils will learn more working in mixed ability groups or in ability teams.
