What you’ll learn

I can ask and answer questions about free-time activities.

Key learning points

  • Words with stress on the third-last syllable have a written accent on the stressed vowel.
  • The 2nd person singular of -er and -ir verbs ends in -es in the present.
  • The 2nd person singular of -er and -ir verbs in ends in -iste in the preterite.
  • In Spanish we use 'de' between two nouns to describe a particular type of something.

Words to know

present
describes habitual events in the present, e.g. 'you do'
preterite
describes completed events in the past, e.g. 'you did'

Common mistakes

When in English there are two nouns together to describe a particular type of something, e.g. 'train ticket', in Spanish we translate them in the same order.

In Spanish, the word order changes and the preposition 'de' is used between the two nouns, e.g. 'train ticket' is 'billete de tren'.

For parents, carers and teachers
  • The teacher might want to follow activity B4 by a speaking activity where students move around the classroom and ask each other these questions.
