What you’ll learn
I can apply different dynamics (speeds) to a range of actions.
Key learning points
- Move: using different speeds changes the appearance and quality of an action.
- Move: moving slowly or quickly requires control, balance and coordination.
- Think: imagination enables us to apply speed to communicate different moods or ideas.
- Feel: self-belief builds confidence to apply different speeds to our actions.
- Connect: fairness requires us to be aware of others, particularly when moving quickly.
Words to know
- fast
- when someone or something moves quickly
- slow
- the lack of speed
- speed
- how fast or slow we perform an action
Common mistakes
There are only two speeds, slow and fast.
There are a wide range of speeds. We might think we can run fast, but a horse can run faster than us, a train can travel faster than a horse and an aeroplane can travel faster than a train.
For parents, carers and teachers
- Starting with slow speeds establishes control and accuracy and supports safe practice. This is further enhanced by remaining on the spot whilst moving quickly.
