What you’ll learn

I can use interrogative adjectives, demonstrative adjectives and two-verb structures with 'de' and 'à' to talk about future plans.

Key learning points

  • Use interrogative adjectives quel (m.sing), quelle (f.sing), quels (mpl), + quelles (fpl) to ask ‘which’.
  • Use demonstrative adjectives ce, cet, cette, ces to mean ‘this/that/those’. They often answer the question ‘which’.
  • Some verbs in French are followed by 'de' and an infinitive; others by 'a' and an infinitive.
  • Opinion, modal verbs and 'aller' are followed directly by an infinitive.
  • Two-verb structures that don’t translate word-for-word into English require additional practice.

Words to know

interrogative adjective
asks a question about a noun, translated as ‘what’ or ‘which’
demonstrative adjective
specifies a particular noun, indicating ‘this’, ‘that’, ‘these’ or ‘those’

Common mistakes

'De' is always translated as 'to' in English.

'De' is often translated as 'to'. However, it can be translated as 'from' and is sometimes not translated at all.

For parents, carers and teachers
  • The second cycle is ideal for speaking practice. Students could come up with their own demonstrative/interrogative adjectives for things in the magazines and translation B2b could be done orally in pairs.
