I can confidently complete all three parts of the Spanish speaking exam: role-play, read aloud and photo description.
Key learning points
- You should answer role-play prompts with a short phrase or sentence. Do not add unnecessary detail.
- It is important to have a firm understanding of sound-spelling correspondences to accurately read aloud in Spanish.
- Use the PALM acronym to structure photo descriptions.
- In the conversation following the photo description, you should aim to develop answers using at least 3 verb clauses.
Words to know
- sound-symbol correspondence
- relationship between letters and their sounds
- PALM
- acronym for photo description (people and objects, action, location, mood)
- verb clause
- a piece of information that contains a subject and a verb
Common mistakes
I should develop my answers as much as possible for all parts of the speaking exam.
It is not necessary to develop your answers extensively for all parts of the speaking exam. Remember to keep your answers short and succinct in the role-play section.
For parents, carers and teachers
- The first feedback slide for Task C1 models a Foundation-tier answer, and the second feedback slide models a Higher-tier answer, which is developed more extensively with opinions and impressions.
