I can communicate future hopes and plans in conversation using modal verbs.
Key learning points
- To use comparatives in Spanish, use 'más' or 'menos' + adjective + 'que'.
- To say something is better or worse than something else, use 'mejor que' or 'peor que'.
- Modal verbs express necessity or possibility, and can be used to communicate future hopes and desires.
- To say what you would like to do, use a modal verb like 'me gustaría' followed by an infinitive.
Words to know
- comparative
- form of an adjective or adverb used to compare people, things or ideas
- modal verb
- verb of necessity or possibility used with a second verb in the infinitive e.g. must, can, want
Common mistakes
The stress in 'me gustaría' falls on the second syllable 'ta'.
The stress in 'me gustaría' falls on the 'í'. We can tell this because it has an accent.
For parents, carers and teachers
- Task A1a tests Foundation-tier vocabulary and Task A1b tests Higher-tier. The words introduced on slides 6-8 and the following practice tasks can be adapted to suit your students' tier and exam board. For more scaffolding in Tasks C1 and C2, you could provide students with a list of questions.
