What you’ll learn

I can understand instructions about caring for the environment.

Key learning points

  • It is important to revisit and practise vocabulary regularly to store it in your long-term memory.
  • Use the affirmative imperative to tell somebody to do something or to give instructions.
  • The imperative forms of 'ser', 'ir', 'tener' and 'venir' are irregular: 'sé', 've', 'ten' and 'ven'.
  • Direct and indirect object pronouns follow and are attached to affirmative imperative verbs.

Words to know

imperative
form of verbs used to give instructions or commands
direct object pronoun
replaces the noun receiving the action of the verb e.g. 'me', 'you', 'it', 'them'
indirect object pronoun
replaces the person, people or thing(s) that the verb action is done to, when the action is done ‘to’ or ‘for’ someone or something

Common mistakes

The only translation of 've' in Spanish is 'she, he, it sees'.

In Spanish, the verb 've' usually means 'she, he, it sees', but it is also the affirmative imperative form of 'ir', meaning 'go'.

For parents, carers and teachers
  • As Tasks B2a and B2b are exam-style questions, you could consider providing students with the worksheet to allow them more independence to complete the questions all together.
