What you’ll learn
I can communicate with peers effectively in a 1 to 1 task.
Key learning points
- Move: moving into suitable positions and using positive body language enables us to communicate with others.
- Move: clear demonstrations of the correct technique enable us to lead bodyweight exercises.
- Think: knowing how to use positive and constructive feedback requires reflection and helps peers to improve / progress.
- Feel: responding to the needs of peers is a good way to measure increased confidence in your own leadership ability.
- Connect: show respect for each other when trying to decipher the correct technique of a bodyweight exercise.
Words to know
- active listening
- paying attention to what someone is saying and showing that you understand them
- positive feedback
- acknowledging what someone did well to encourage and praise them
- constructive feedback
- giving helpful suggestions on how someone can improve their performance
Common mistakes
Pupils think leading is just about giving instructions.
A ledaer also requires active listening and the time and confidence to provide feedback on what has been completed well and how things can be improved.
For parents, carers and teachers
- Making a dice or spinner with bodyweight exercise illustrations will maximise engagement through suspense. Adding a QR code to small videos of the bodyweight exercise will allow a clearer understanding of the correct technique.
