What you’ll learn
I can offer interpretations of other people’s work.
Key learning points
- Move: communicating ideas through dance requires clear actions and expression.
- Think: offering interpretations of someone’s work requires observation, interpretation and evaluation.
- Feel: justifying interpretations requires integrity.
- Connect: feedback should respect the effort of the choreographers/performers.
Words to know
- motif
- a recurring pattern
- interpret
- explain the meaning of something
- symbol
- a thing that represents something else
Common mistakes
There can only be one correct interpretation of an action or image.
Interpreting meaning of a symbolic action can vary depending on your previous experience and opinions, so people may view it differently and draw various conclusions. The important thing is to be able to justify your interpretation.
For parents, carers and teachers
- By the teacher frequently modelling interpretations throughout the lessons, pupils will be more confident and able to express their thoughts and offer reasons behind their opinions.
