Key learning points

- Think: applying different attacking tactics and into the games requires decision making.
- Think: deciding how to adapt attacking tactics as the situation in the game changes increases our chances of winning.
- Feel: striving to find success in the different tactics our team tries demonstrates self-motivation.
- Connect: taking time to explain our tactics demonstrates a clear understanding of everyone's role and shows respect.
Words to know
- possession
- the team in control of the ball
- tactic
- plans you create and use to try to win or succeed
- adapt
- to change or adjust to fit a new situation
Common mistakes
Pupils feel embarrassed to admit when they don't understand a tactic or don't listen when tactics are being discussed.
It is really important to encourage pupils to be honest if they don't understand so that their teammates can explain to them. Celebrate and praise pupils/teams who ensure everyone understands, and individuals who speak up when they need help.
For parents, carers and teachers
- Pause games after a set amount of time; allow teams time to reflect and evaluate the effectiveness of their tactics. Celebrate teams who demonstrate great communication and collaboration; award extra points for this where applicable.
