What you’ll learn
I can create, apply and adapt attacking and defensive tactics in games to help my team to be successful.
Key learning points
- Move: creating a successful shooting chance requires us to dribble, pass and move accurately and consistently.
- Move: preventing an attack requires a quick transition into defensive positions to deny the opposition space and time.
- Think: adapting tactics as the situation in the game changes requires problem solving and increases chances for success.
- Feel: never giving up even when our team is losing; striving to succeed instead demonstrates great self discipline
- Connect: listening to our team, explaining tactics when someone doesn't understand, shows effective communication.
Words to know
- adapt
- to change or adjust to fit a new situation
- tactics
- plans you create and use to try to win or succeed
- success
- achieving a goal or doing something well
Common mistakes
Once in games, pupils focus too much on just wanting to shoot and to win. Pupils forget the importance of their tactics and that they need to stay focused on the task ahead.
Encourage pupils to focus on their tactics and to understand that it is the successful implementation of their tactics that will lead to success in the games.
For parents, carers and teachers
- Award points in the games for effective team work and teams/pupils who never give up. Also award points for successful implementation of tactics.
